Why do numbers differ so much?
Latvia's high count comes from combining state holidays, Christian feast days
and many remembrance days. Spain and Canada have regional holidays on top of
national ones. Some countries, like the Netherlands, keep a shorter official
list but have a strong culture of unofficial observance.
What counts as a public holiday?
This site follows the Date.Nager dataset, which tracks officially recognised
public holidays and observances per country. Numbers can differ from other
sources because some include regional holidays and some do not.
